Many more tomatoes will be harvested and canned before the cold weather arrives!

Just before the first frost occurs, collect all the tomatoes at any stage of ripening and leave them in in bowls on a counter or table.  Almost all of then will eventually ripen!

Now look at them a week or so later

Tomatoes ripening 2Refrigerate the ripened tomatoes and make the taste of summer last into winter.

The cages can be moved around the garden to protect seedlings at different planting times. They can be reused crop after crop and year after year. Undo the corners and store them flat for the winter.

Building a simple and portable greenhouse can add three months of harvest to the vegetable gardening. The 6 x 8 foot greenhouse shown in this video is growing 50 beets, 12 Swiss chard plants, weeks and weeks worth of leaf lettuce, 15 kale plants, 40 parsnips, 40 carrots, weeks and weeks worth of spinach. Plant seeds in late December and start harvesting lettuce and spinach leaves in March. It costs about $75.00 in parts to make it.
